More Nikon used Lenses with true used values....
Nikon 12-24mm DX AF-S F4
At first this was the only viable pick for wide angle on DX, but Tokina did better with their own 12-24 and better still with their 11-16mm 2.8. Either are smarter choices than Nikon's 12-24, but if you must have one expect to pay 725-825 for a used copy.
Nikon 24mm 2.8 AF-D
A neat little prime that is of good quality and fairly sharp wide open. It's best feature is the low weight and small size. I generally prefer this to the more expensive 20mm. Expect to pay 200-225 for a nice used copy.
Nikon 80-400 VR
Nikon's powerhouse zoom is now quite dated with it's slow focusing and high price. Many will stick with the 70-300 AF-S VR until the 80-400 is updated. Used mint copies typically go for 1100-1300. Prices dip since it's not AF-S and it's very slow to focus on many DSLR bodies. STRONG RUMOR THAT THIS WILL BE REPLACED WITH A 100-500 AF-S VR version within a year.
Nikon 70-300 AF-S VR
This lens is almost too good to be true. It's far better than earlier versions and has nice bokeh along with effective VR. Priced new at about 550, you can expect to pay 375-450 for a nice copy.
Nikon 18-200 AF-S VRThis DX lens has created a lot of arguments. It's price new at around 700 seemed too high for what is essentially consumer glass, but this lens is actually VERY useful as a walk around or travel lens. A good used copy is worth 475-550. VR version II is now also out! Check my review of the new Tamron 28-300 if you're a FX shooter!
Nikon 85mm 1.4 AF-D
Read about this lens leads buyers to believe it's supernatural and it almost is. It's one of the best portrait lenses ever made. Selling new in the 1100-1200 range, mint used copies sell for 750-900.
Nikon 24-70 AF-S 2.8
Optically this is the best zoom of it's type made and the price reflects this, costing 1750-1800 new. Few will sell these babies for much less than 1400-1500 and that's a good price for a mint used copy.
Nikon 18-55 DX Kit Lens and VR version
Here we have two lenses that you'll often find listed with a D40 or D60, but what are they actually worth? The non-VR version is just 125 dollars and B&H sells them used for 70. The VR version sells for about 170 new and might bring 125 used. Neither of these lenses make a D40 worth more than 400 dollars used of course.
Nikon 18-70 DX kit lens
There is only one version of this lens. It was usually kitted with the D70, but became popular on its own as well. It's a solid lens that still holds up well. 200-225 is about right for a good copy.
Nikon 35-70mm 2.8 AF-D
This lens has regained some popularity on FX bodies, though it was recently discontinued. This lens is easily as good as the 35mm 2.0, though some samples are not as sharp wide open at 2.8. It has a macro mode that few will use. This lens does quite well even when compared to the expensive 28-70 AF-S 2.8. It was selling for 469.00 new at B&H and typically trades at around 350 for a nice copy. Paying more than that is a bit nutty, but it's a nice hunk of glass.
